Redesigning and Redecorating a Bedroom

Saturday, April 26th, 2008

If you have a large enough room, a great deal can be achieved if you decide on redesigning or redecorating your master bedroom. In recent times, homeowners have seen the benefits of turning this room into more than just a room to sleep; for example, a reading room or just a place to relax. Following the French style of designing master bedrooms to have a more sensual feel seems to have become be more desirable in the last few years as we catch up with something they have been doing for many years.

This can be achieved with the use of certain colors that have a warm and emotional feel to them, associated with sensuality; pinks, reds and peaches all fall into this category. Of course to improve upon this and enhance the atmosphere further you will need the subtle use of mirrors and candles along with some beautiful tropical plants; I am sure you can see the appeal to this already. Candles are also useful but they need mirrors to enhance the reflections or you can add plants which will also provide the same effect.

The only other thing you will need to add is sufficient light to read by which could always be a reading lamp on a table next to the chair but make sure the lighting is not to strong or it will spoil the effect. Of course when you paint your reading room you will need to choose soft colors that are relaxing and reflect light without glare; colors like old world ivory, antique amber, sage green, or slate blue for instance. Redecorating and redesigning the master bedroom as a  ’sanctuary’ is quite an easy redecorating project with only large pillows or cushions, a throw or two needed; with perhaps a landscape or seascape picture which can be reflected in a mirror to complete the conversion.

If your sanctuary is also a place where you intend to read then the addition of a comfortable chair and a reading lamp will be a simple matter. Of course when redecorating your master bedroom this way, pictures of your family (preferably in antique brass frames) should be placed around the room to provide a sanctuary like feeling. Colors that work well in private sanctuaries include navy or cobalt blues, deep chocolates, and forest greens as darker colors create a womb or cave like feeling and aid deep sleep.

If you have the space, a writing desk and television all contribute to the feeling of being able to shut out the world and luxuriate in your own private space. Some people even conceal a fridge in the room which would also give the feeling you were in a hotel suite but one designed to your own tastes. As you spend time redecorating your master bedroom in a way that reflects your lifestyle, it can be a worthwhile project and who knows, you may find yourself spending even more time in this often undervalued room.

Bathroom Decorating Tips For Women

Thursday, March 27th, 2008

During recent years, bathrooms and toilets have increased in size and this has caused new decoration techniques to be developed; especially if you consider that you can now quite easily fit a spa tub designed for use indoors. This is not the tiny and cold dull uninspiring room that it used to be, we all spend a great deal more of our life in there these days so it would be a shame if we didn’t search out some bathroom decorating ideas to make it look more interesting. After all, if we are spending more than half an hour a day in the bathroom, why shouldn’t it be more interesting or relaxing?

After all, if the rest of your home is well presented, why would you want your bathroom decorating ideas to let you down? Over recent years, great emphasis has been placed on redesigning bedrooms and kitchens as the time spent in these rooms has increased, this is now becoming the same with bathrooms.

Some of the best bathroom decorating ideas often come from methods you have probably used around the rest of your home and will keep it in tune with your overall style. In this instance, you may have a home that has many small tables placed around it with plants on them, well, why not extend this very simple idea to your bathroom. You can also use it for magazines and books to give your restroom that special touch that really makes life a little better.

If your designs work well and are different to the rest of your home, then why not use them around the house in other rooms. Wall and floor tile are a prime example of this transfer of decorating ideas which can be seen in many homes.

Fortunately many of the white tile designs in kitchens are no longer popular so colorful and traditional tiles can be used in other areas of the home including the kitchen, with equal effect. Bathroom decorating ideas are not all about tiles on the walls and floor, there are many other ideas which can be used successfully in every room.

Beside the tiles, there are many creative things that you can do with the soap and the soap trays. In fact some of the home decoration periodicals have illustrated how easy it is to actually make your own soap trays and dispensers.

One of the best articles I ever read was to make them out of clay; that way, you can make them easily, and fashion them into whatever shape your heart desires. Of course, another great idea is to put something relaxing opposite the bath, such as a picture of a boat floating on a quiet lake. There is no reason to allow this room to stay dull and uninviting any longer with all the ideas and materials available today.
